I’m thinking if it was this way fem-Mako would be called a two timing bitch/whore/slut. Fem-Bolin would just be cast off as the girl noone really wants for socially acceptable reasons and is back up material. And mas-Korra would just be covered in sympathetic  fan girls for not really getting the girl from the start. Further more, ‘his’ aggressive personality would probably just be expected and not seen as much of an issue . 

Genders really make a difference it seems. 

And what if Pabu was like a….wolf or something?
